Mumbai : Is Shraddha Kapoor B-Town's next queen?

Mumbai July 19 2014: Shraddha Kapoor has had an extremely good start to her career in Bollywood. The Tinsel Town was really impressed by her performance in ` Aashiqu 2` and now the 100 crore club movie ` Ek Villain`. Shraddha has really lived-up to all the hype.

With her next project `Haider`, she has well and truly arrived. Vishal Bharadwaj is known to turn around careers and he has an eye for calibre. Whether it was Saif Ali Khan and Ajay Devgn in `Omkara`, Shahid in `Kaminey` or Priyanka Chopra in `Saat Khoon Maaf`, he has made sure that each of his stars are taken more seriously as actors in the industry. And possibly, he gets the best out of each of his cast.

Now that she is also starring in choreographer`s Remo D`Souza`s next `Anybody Can Dance 2` (ABCD 2), Shraddha has proved that she doesnt have a dirth of offers coming her way. And she is going for versatality. She has already starred in a romantic drama, thriller and is going to be seen in a drama and an out-and-out comercial venture with `ABCD 2`. The `Aashiqui 2` star is super excited to be in Vishal Bharadwaj`s next Shakespearean project `Haider`. Fortunately or unfortunately the movie release clashes with Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif starrer `Bang Bang` on 2nd October. Speaking to a leading daily the actress said that she was floored when Hrithik congratulated her for her performance in `Aashiqui 2`. She is here to stay and she has proven that in a year itself. She might just shoot ahead of the other stars, but this decade has seen some formidable debuts by many stars including Parineeti Chopra and Alia Bhatt. Plus there are the established stars like Priyanka, Katrina, Deepika, Kangana and even Kareena who is not ready to fizzle out even after marriage. The audience seems quite impressed by her and we hope that she continues to enthrall them with good choices, and makes good use of her talents.

Mumbai: Kriti Sanon: I'm too new to develop an attitude

Mumbai, July 16 2014:  Two films old actress Kriti Sanon is baffled at stories that she has developed an attitude following the success of her debut Hindi film "Heropanti". She says she hasn't "achieved nothing to be arrogant about".

Could the fact that she has signed a film "Singh Is Bling" with Akshay Kumar have something to do with this? Kriti defended herself: "How can I throw attitude? I am just two films old, one in Hindi the other in Telugu. Of course, my Hindi film 'Heropanti' has become a much bigger success than anyone ever imagined. But that doesn't mean I've started thinking I've arrived." "I am just a beginner. The two films so far are baby steps. If I develop an attitude, I'll be finished even before I've started. Besides, if I started misbehaving, my folks would give me a tight slap." The "change" in attitude, she believes, comes from people's change of expectations. "If I'm slightly busier now, I am accused of changing. It's sad to be constantly judged for every move you make after your first success. If you wear your hair differently, you have changed." "If you request for a little time to fulfil a commitment, you're accused of being arrogant. I repeat, I've achieved nothing to be arrogant about," she said. Kriti says her time between the release of "Heropanti" and the shooting of a second untitled Telugu film was taken up on social networking in Bollywood. "Unlike star kids whom everyone knows by first name in the movie industry, no one new who I was. Being an outsider, I had to literally introduce myself everywhere. I met individual producers, told them about myself, like any individual job-holder. Luckily, for me, my first producer Sajid Nadiadwala treats both Tiger Shroff and me like his kids. He's very protective." Kriti has a three-film deal with Nadiadwala. "But it isn't a binding deal. I'm free to work in outside production." She is already doing her second Telugu film opposite Naga Chaitanya. Kriti's first Telugu film "1: Nenokkadine" was an average runner. "Though it starred the the Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu, it was something unexpected for his fans." As for the resounding success of "Heropanti", Kriti is over the moon. "While we were shooting we knew we were making a good film. But it was only after the first trailer came out that we realised we were sitting on a potential blockbuster." Having done two Telugu films, without knowing how to speak a word in that language, Kriti is open to offers from the South. "But only if something really good comes up. I signed both my Telugu films before the release of 'Heropanti'. Now my priority is a career in Mumbai," she added.

New Delhi: I am in awe of Salman Khan: Nargis Fakhri

New Delhi, July 10 2014: After matching steps with Salman Khan in a special song from the upcoming film `Kick`, model-actress Nargis Fakhri says she was bowled over by the superstar`s personality and energy.

The 34-year-old beauty said she was nervous initially to shake a leg with the `Dabangg` star. "It was ecstatic to work with Salman but at the same time I was nervous because he is one of the biggest stars of the industry and I thought I would mess-up everything on the set. "But once I got to the set and met him all those worries faded away. He has an amazing sense of humour and imparted so much positivity. I am in awe of Salman. I had a great time with him and the entire team of the film," Nargis said. The item number `Yaar Na Mile` is composed by rapper Honey Singh and is choreographed by Ahmed Khan. While rehearsing for the edgy dance number, Nargis had been nursing a ruptured knee ligament and a torn hamstring injuries but that did not deter the `Rockstar` actress from giving her best shot. "It was extremely painful but I didn`t let the golden opportunity go from my hand. So, I managed somehow to get it complete in four days because I did not want to let go the opportunity," she said. This would be the actress` second item number after `Dhating Naach` with Shahid Kapoor in `Phata Poster Nikla Hero`. But Nargis says she would now stay away from such special numbers because she might get typecast as an item girl. "I don`t want to be known as an item dancer. I want to be known as an actress only. Dance is something which I like to do but acting is my passion. I would like to do good and meaty roles. I am in talks with directors also but nothing has been finalised yet," she said.

Mumbai: Vishal gives me creative freedom, says Tabu

Mumbai, July 9 2014: After collaborating with director Vishal Bhardwaj in "Maqbool", Tabu will be seen in his next "Haider". She says she was eager to work with him as he gives her creative freedom.

"I was waiting to work with Vishal again. He gives me the utmost creative freedom when I work," Tabu said here Tuesday at the trailer launch of the film.

"He just lets you do whatever you want to do. He just corrects you if he feels it is wrong, but I enjoy working with him," she added.

Tabu Tabu says she was eager to work with him as he gives her creative freedom.

"Haider", an adaptation of "Hamlet", is part of Bhardwaj's Shakespeare trilogy after "Maqbool" (Macbeth) and "Omkara" (Othello"). Further praising her rapport with Bhardwaj the 42-year-old said, "I think we work very well together." "We both understand each other very well. We have shared history, we have shared one of the most intense times of my life during 'Maqbool' and he will always be part of that. "It was fantastic to work with him," she added. Besides acting in "Haider", Tabu has also sung a song. Produced by UTV Motion Pictures, the film, scheduled for an October 2 release, also stars Shahid Kapoor, Irrfan, Kay Kay Menon and Shraddha Kapoor.

Mumbai: I'm here to stay: Sidharth Malhotra

Mumbai, July 5 2014: His success ratio is impressive and model-turned-actor Sidharth Malhotra, who is currently riding high on "Ek Villain", which has minted Rs.77.20 crore in its opening week, is confident he will play a long innings in filmdom.

The 29-year-old, who was criticised for his inability to dance or to emote well in his debut film "Student of the Year", despite the fact that it passed off with flying colours at the box office, has a reason to believe that. Sidharth feels with "Ek Villain", he has successfully converted the non-believers to believers and that he can't be easily written off. "It was first experience...this kind of box office success. I feel I've reached out to more number of people with this film than I ever had; so that's exciting. Now, I feel that I am here to stay. More people think that I am here to stay and I deserve this place," Sidharth told IANS in a telephonic interview from Mumbai. "It's satisfying to see that I took risk two years ago by choosing a genre like this and character like this which is so different from what I've done before and that's paying off. It could've gone wrong. It's very satisfying as an actor to try something new and see that the audience is liking it," added the actor who played romantic roles in his first two films. So far, the Delhi boy had three releases, of which "Hasee Toh Phasee" is the only film that underperformed. However he won a lot of fans, thanks to his looks. While many would kill for looks like his, the six-foot-plus actor found it a challenge. "We are not just standing and posing. Are we? Looks are part and parcel. I've tried to change my looks in all the three films. People think he is a good looking boy, so he can't act... that's a notion here. So to break that, to go beyond looks was also a challenge to me," said the actor, who wants to keep reinventing himself. Sidharth, who plays Guru - a criminal transformed into a good guy by the power of love - in the romantic thriller, says the film "was also an endeavour to turn all the non-believers into believers". "People who didn't see the craft or who weren't convinced about my craft or about my space here. I think 'Ek Villain' is the best answer I could give them...The good business shows that I've possibly made more number of fans," he added. The movie has earned him more than just fans; the 29-year-old says many filmmakers are approaching him post the success of "Ek Villain". "Now, filmmakers would not feel shy in putting a certain amount of money in a project with me; so there is that change in perception but I was committed to two films before I did 'Ek Villain'; so now I am concentrating on those two films. "One is a remake of English film called 'Warrior'. After that is 'Bhavesh Joshi'. What 'Ek Villain' has done for me is to open up a new genre of films and scripts . Not just love stories are given to me. There is also thriller and action. I am just waiting and seeing what interesting comes up and what I can sign after these two films," he said. Sidharth, who assisted director Karan Johar in the past before putting himself in the shoes of various characters, had thought of going behind the camera too. But thanks to the thunderous response to "Ek Villain", he has changed his mind. "I got into assistant direction. I thought of that as an option then, but after the success of 'Ek Villain'... Nah. Why would I go behind the camera? I would like to be in front of the camera. I would be happier to play various characters. It's far more tough as a director," he said. He may try the numbers game by venturing into production...some day. "Producing is business angle. For now no... Maybe in future. If I am capable of it. If I understand the know-how," he said.
